Medical Assistant Skills Lab Instructor

The Medical Assistant Skills Lab Instructor for Propel Online plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals. This position is designed for a dynamic educator who excels in both theoretical instruction and practical application. The role encompasses classroom teaching, clinical practicum oversight, simulation management, and skills laboratory tracking. Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver assigned classes using established curricula and instructional materials.
  • Maintain a well-organized and functional classroom environment.
  • Supervise students in laboratory and clinical settings, ensuring adherence to course objectives.
  • Order and manage medical supplies for laboratory experiences.
  • Provide hands-on instruction through demonstrations and evaluate student competencies via return demonstrations.
  • Sign, date, and provide feedback on student skills checklists as required.
  • Manage simulation scenarios and assess student responses effectively.
  • Conduct CPR instruction in compliance with American Heart Association guidelines.
  • Teach and oversee practical skills, including phlebotomy, ECG monitoring, injections, and vital sign measurements.
  • Guide students in triage, critical thinking, and patient documentation practices.
  • Ensure proper handling and preparation of lab specimens for transport.
  • Provide instruction on aseptic and sterile techniques, including PPE use and biohazard waste disposal.
  • Stay current with healthcare competencies and standards relevant to assigned courses.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the program's objectives.

Qualifications include:

  • Degree or post-secondary education with relevant experience meeting state and ABHES accreditation requirements.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of practical experience, with teaching experience preferred.
  • Current certification, registration, or licensure as a Medical Assistant, Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Registered Nurse (RN), or Medical Doctor (M.D.).
  • Basic Life Support Provider-Instructor Certification through the American Heart Association.
