GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs advanced (senior-level) systems administration work. Work involves maintaining the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of systems. Install and upgrade computer components and system software. May assign and/or supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiate and independent judgement.

The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Support and provide maintenance of existing and future commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions in support of the maintenance schedules and roadmaps.

2. Administer and support the Atlassian suite (including Jira, Confluence, and related tools) used for application lifecycle management, workflow automation, and team collaboration.

3. Implement and support the automation tools and scripts.

4. Implement, configure, and provide maintenance of Apache, Tomcat, and Java environments and related middleware components to ensure stable and optimal application delivery.

5. Support and provide maintenance of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline and code deployment tools and environments, build automation tools, the Atlassian suite (such as Jira and Confluence), and other middleware deployment environments.

6. Setup, configure and support IIS implementations used for hosting web applications and middleware related components.

7. Support shared middleware platforms used across a large portfolio of agency applications and ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of these environments. Serve as a technical expert in diagnosing and resolving issues involving application servers, middleware components, and cross platform integrations.

8. Participate in planning and advancing cloud related education, training, and readiness to support evolving middleware and application hosting strategies.

9. Keep current on trends and technological innovations in the IT industry, making recommendations for opportunities to improve efficiency of performance and software.

10. Create and update architecture, installation and operational support documentation for Web/Client server and, COTS software deployments.

11. Attend work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.

12. Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field is required.

Experience -


• Minimum of five (5) years' experience in an enterprise IT environment performing technical work.


• Minimum of five (5) years' experience supporting applications in both Windows Server and Linux environments.

• Minimum of five (5) years' experience in the configuration and maintenance of Internet Information Services and Apache/Tomcat.

Licensure and/or Certification - Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.

Regulatory Knowledge - Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures.


Supervisory/Managerial/Leadership Skills - Knowledge of management and supervisory methods and principles, performance and productivity standards, and fiscal/budget management. Able to develop plans, policies, and procedures for efficient workflow and overall effectiveness. Must exhibit integrity; provide clear direction to subordinates; promote teamwork and be able to motivate others to accomplish goals.

Interpersonal Skills - Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.

Research and Comprehension - Must demonstrate ability to quickly and efficiently access relevant information and be able to utilize and/or present research and conclusions in a clear and concise manner.

Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail - Must demonstrate an ability to examine technical data/information, systems/procedures, discern variations/similarities, and be able identify trends, relationships and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and make recommendations for best fit solutions. Knowledge of current IT system capabilities and how to incorporate those capabilities into solutions.

Technology (computers/hardware/software/operating systems) - Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems.


• Working knowledge and hands-on administration of the full Atlassian product suite including Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo, and related Atlassian tools, as a core function of the position.

• Knowledge of Amazon Web Services cloud computing services, products, and solutions.

• Core administration skills in Windows Server and/or Linux Server.

• Knowledge of CI/CD processes, automation, and integration.

• Knowledge of middleware platforms such as Apache Server, Tomcat, IIS, and Java application server environments that support both legacy and modern applications.

• Skill in the use and implementation of automation tools; Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Code Deploy, Code Pipeline as required to meet the requirements of CI/CD.

• Skill in scripting automation languages; Bash, JavaScript, Java, Python.


• Skill in the integration of DevOps principles, tools, automation, and planning.

• Knowledge of Agile methods and practices.

• Skill in Identity and access principles and implementation of both on premise and cloud environment.

• Strong knowledge on Version control tools - GIT

• Prior experience with administrating build and deployment automation tools like Bamboo and Jenkins

• Experience with Artifactory administration is a plus.

A DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receive an increase of no more than 3.4% over their current salary regardless of posted salary.

Salary is contingent upon qualifications and is subject to salary administration and budgetary restrictions.
