Status: Non-Exempt, Full-time

Reports to: Advocate Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY:

Canyon Creek Services (CCS) provides trauma-informed, survivor-centered services to individuals impacted by domestic violence (DV), sexual violence/assault (SA), and human trafficking with this position having a special focus on Spanish-speaking survivors.

The Bilingual Advocate offers direct advocacy, crisis intervention, legal and medical accompaniment, and resource navigation, ensuring survivors receive culturally responsive, survivor-centered support. Advocacy services are available 24/7. The advocate maintains a caseload of assigned survivors, providing ongoing support and ensuring access to holistic, survivor-driven advocacy throughout the healing process.

The Bilingual Advocate reports to the Advocate Coordinator and works as part of a coordinated team to provide comprehensive support for survivors. Each advocate maintains a caseload, ensuring ongoing support throughout the survivors healing journey while promoting autonomy, empowerment, and safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

CRISIS RESPONSE & DIRECT ADVOCACY

  • Provide immediate crisis intervention, safety planning, and emotional support for survivors of DV, SA, and human trafficking.
  • Provide trauma-informed support throughout the survivors healing process, ensuring a survivor-led approach to advocacy.
  • Respond to 24-hour hotline calls and hospital forensic exams on a rotation on-call schedule.
  • Accompany survivors to forensic medical exams, law enforcement interviews, and court proceedings.
  • Assist survivors with protective orders, crime victim compensation applications, and court system navigation.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, medical professionals, and legal service providers to ensure coordinated survivor support.

CASE MANAGEMENT, SERVICE COORDINATION, & SURVIVOR GOAL PLANNING:

  • Conduct risk and needs assessments to develop survivor-centered service plans that address immediate and long-term goals.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential client records, ensuring all services are properly documented.
  • Assist survivors in creating individualized service plans to navigate housing, financial aid, employment, and other essential resources.
  • Ensure survivors from underserved populations (LGBTQ+, immigrant, disabled, and rural survivors) receive equitable, accessible, and culturally responsive services.
  • Ensure compliance with victim rights laws, CCS policies, and confidentiality standards.

SURVIVOR EDUCATION & SUPPORT

  • Provide survivors with education on legal rights, safety planning, and available resources to support their healing and recovery.
  • Assist survivors in identifying and accessing long-term support services, including therapy, employment programs, and housing resources.
  • Participate in ongoing training, professional development, and case consultation to strengthen service delivery.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support CCSs mission and survivor services.

TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS:

A candidate must possess:

  • Bachelors degree preferred; equivalent experience in victim advocacy or related fields will be considered.
  • Experience working with domestic violence and sexual assault survivors preferred.
  • Proficiency in Spanish required to effectively serve Spanish-speaking survivors.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to track case information in CCSs database.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, particularly Spanish-speaking.
  • Must have a valid drivers license, current auto insurance, and the ability to travel for crisis response, training, and outreach.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Within one month of hire, the employee must successfully complete:
    • 40- Hour Core Advocacy Training certification
    • CPR/First Aid Certification
